REVIEW BY MYSTIC HIMALAYAS
It was a dream came true for my family comprising me, my wife and son. A dream cherished for 10 years to trek Djongri-La, a naturally prosperous, dense Greenland, the journey to mighty, sacred Kanchendzonga base camp. A big thanks to the people of Yuksom, the forest department of Sikkim for protecting this forest.
This trek is not a tea house trek. It needs all arrangements like tenting, food etc to be taken along. We were lucky to get the contact of “Black Yak Expeditions”, Yuksom, to arrange all our needs, required to complete this trek. Mr. Puspa, an owner of “Black Yak Expeditions” is a gem of a person, himself holding certification in Basic and Advance Mountaineering, has successfully climbed several Himalayan peaks above 6500 meters. He provided us with a guide, cook and 3 yaks with the yak-man to carry our provisions, tents, sleeping bags, utensils, stove, etc.
We requested him to provide us with a guide who would be well versed in the local culture, traditions, geography, Buddhism and be communicative. We are really thankful to Mr. Puspa to provide us Mr. Puran Gurung, a gentleman with immense knowledge, eager to discuss on every subject, himself qualified in Basic Mountaineering with many peaks climbed above 6500 mtr. We really enjoyed his company.
We normally have been to tea house treks in the Himalayas before but this was our first trek with any organization. We were surprised to find fruits and sweet dishes after meals and soup on arrival to campsites. Before we would reach camp, our tents would already be set up. Thanks to our guide Mr. Puran, our cook Mr. Devman and Yak-man Mr. Budhadev for caring, and being always watchful to see if we needed anything. Without your sincere efforts, our trek would not have been so comfortable and safe.
I would like to mention one event during the trek. While descending to Sachen from Tshoka, there is a landslide area. As it was raining, we could constantly hear sounds of rocks falling while approaching the bridge beside the landslide area. It is a very risky area to cross. My wife was a bit worried. A big thanks to Mr. Puran for helping us cross this area safely. His immense confidence was very reassuring. He waited for the right moment and then moved us quickly from that area, taking various shortcuts. There is no doubt that he is well aware of this terrain.
Thanks again to Mr. Pushpa, Mr. Puran, Mr. Devman and Mr. Budharaj for giving us a pleasant and memorable trek.

Doing the 8-day Goecha La Trek with Black Yak Expedition was one of the best experiences we ever had! The owner, Puspa Lama, was very welcoming and made us feel at peace at any time.
Our tour guide, Puran Gurung, and the expedition team, Nima and Satyam (+ the Yak porter) were some of the friendliest people we met during our travels. They prepared some of the best food we ever tried in India for us, and told us everything about the Khangchendzonga area and Sikkimese culture. We saw plenty of wild animals, including the Himalayan Black Bear, the Langur monkey, and blue sheep.
Together we played cards and shared great moments in the mountains. We would recommend Black Yak to anybody who wants to do combine challenging treks with great and fun times. One of the best expedition companies in the Himalaya!
