Day 01: Bagdogra Airport to Uttarey (1,900.mtrs)
Trekkers have to report either at NJP Railway Station which is the nearest railhead to Uttarey or at Bagdogra Airport by 8:00 AM. The transportation would be arranged either in Max. Bolero or Tempo Traveller depending upon the number of trekkers and the cost for the same would be borne by the company. Drive from NJP to Uttarey is mesmerizing with dense forests of Sikkim all along the way to Uttarey. It usually takes about 7 to 8-hour drive to arrive at Uttarey from NJP/Bagdogra. Trekkers can stop at Jorethang for the lunch and make sure to carry sufficient cash while arriving at Uttarey as after Jorethang there are very few options for ATMs. The drive goes via Jorethang, Richenpong, Dentam and at last Singshore Bridge which is the highest suspension bridge in India and the second highest suspension bridge in Asia. Make sure to start from NJP or Bagdogra by 10 am so that you can arrive easily by 5 pm before it gets dark. The altitude gain from NJP (114mts) to Uttarey (1950mts) is about 1836mts. overnight in tents/hotel. If time permits, one could also see around Uttarey, there is the Tenzing Hillary Park, a monastery, and other local attractions. Additionally, Uttarey is a famous trek start-point on Indio-Nepal border.
Day 02: Uttarey (1,950.mtrs) to Ghaddi Dara (2,112.mtrs) 4 to 5 hours.
This day after breakfast the walk begins towards Ghaddi Dara. It takes about 5 to 6 hours walk. The trail passes through many villages like Bulling, Geetang, Bangten and Changay Village towards Ghaddi Dara. This day the trail sometime is along the motorable road and at times through the dense local forest. The trail is full of beautiful blooming flowers. At Ghaddi Dara there is a rare pine forest around the camping place and the camp offers you majestic views of the Rathong, The S Kabru, The N Kabru, The Kangchenjunga, The Pandim, The Tenzingkhang, and The Jopnu. Overnight stay in camping.
Day03: Ghaddi Dara (2,112.mtrs) to Upper Rimbi (1,585.mtrs)
This day the walk begins in an easy fashion towards Upper Nambu. From here the trail gradually descends towards Nambu road head. Before Nambu road head you will walk through dense forests. You will also come to a heritage village. From Nambu road head the trail is along a motorable road till your campsite. Overnight at camp.
Day 04: Upper Rimbi (1,585.mtrs) to Khechoplari (2,226.mtrs) 4 to 5 hours.
This day after breakfast trek to Khechoplari. It is about 4 to 5 hours walk. The trail is an easy ascent toward Mali Dara, near Mali monastery through upper Rimbi village,Topung and kumdara gurung village. There you can take rest with majestic views of snow-capped mountains. The trail then gradually descends towards the road head through the wild forest, cardamom fields, and local villages. Continue on the road to Khechoplari lake. Overnight at homestay/ camp.
Day 05: Khechoplari (2,226.mtrs) to Yuksom (1,750.mtrs) 4 to 5 hours.
In morning before breakfast, you can visit the Lake and monastery and then have your breakfast. Thereafter start the trek for next camp from Yuksom. It is a 4-5 hour walk today. To begin, the trail is easy and downhill towards Kanchenjunga waterfalls through the deep forest and Lepcha villages. In some places walk over the suspension bridge. You will have few minutes rest from the waterfall, then trek towards Yuksam. Initially, the walk is on motorable road towards from big suspension bridge near Leathang Village. A few minutes from the bridge, the trail goes uphill through the Lepcha village Ramgaythang, and Yuksom Y S S School. You are in Yuksom here. Check into your hotel/homestay/camp.
Day 06: Yuksom (1,750.mtrs) to Labdang (1,460.mtrs) 4 to 5 hours.
The walk begins in an easy fashion from Labdang and takes about 5 to 6 hours walk. The trail passes by Dubdi Monastery, Tshong village, Hongri Monastery, Nesha pokhari Dara, Nakung Village towards Labdang Gurung heritage Village. A part of the route towards Labdang is on road and the rest through the forest. The trail is full of blooming flowers. You will see dense cardamoms fields, waterfalls and wild bees’ nests near Nakung village. Overnight at camping/homestay.
Day 07: Labdang (1,460.mtrs) to Tashiding (1,460.mtrs) 4 to5 hours.
This day after breakfast walk the same way back to Tashiding. The trail passes by Nesha pokhari Dara. Continue towards sinon monastery. From here the trail is a steep downhill towards Tashiding. This day most of the time you will walk on a motorable road. The trail offers you very pleasant views of flora, fauna, culture and beautiful heritage local village. Overnight at camping/homestay.
Day 8: Tashiding (1,460.mtrs) to Ravangla (2,055.mtrs) 5 to 6 hours.
After breakfast, trek gradually descends towards Tashiding suspension bridge walk around 2 hours. This day sometimes you will walk on the motorable road. On the way, you will visit Bon monastery. It is a famous monastery in Sikkim. The Bon monastery was established in 1980 AD by the late Yung Dung Tsultrim. There are only two Bon monasteries in India; one in Himachal Pradesh and the other in Sikkim. The monastery exhibits the fascinating paintings of Bon deities including the Bon Demonical Buddha. The Bon monastery is located between Kewzing and Ravangla. After crossing over a suspension bridge the trek continues to gradually ascend towards Ravangla. Overnight at camping/ Homestay.
Day 08: Lave Ravangla to Airport / Railway Station (Drive.)
After having breakfast, we depart to NJP or Bagdogra Airport depending upon the trekker’s travel plans. It is advisable to start early since it is a long drive. The distance from NJP/ Bagdogra airport is 155 kilometers which ideally should not take more than 7 to 8 hours. Lunch can be enjoyed at Jorethang or Malli Checkpost. After having lunch, continue your drive to your destination at the N J P/Bagdogra Airport.
